The Story of Creation
Genesis 1:1-5 GNB The Light TEV Nelson In the beginning, when God created the universe,
the earth was formless and desolate. The raging ocean that covered everything that was engulfed in total darkness, and the power of God was moving over the water.
Then God commanded, "Let there be light"--and light appeared.
God was pleased with what he saw. Then he separated the light from the darkness,
and he named the light "Day" and the darkness "Night." Evening passed and morning came--that was the first day.
The Word of Life
John 1:1-5 GNB The Light TEV Nelson Before the world was created, the Word already existed; he was with God, and he was the same as God.
From the very beginning the Word was with God.
Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him.
The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to mankind.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never put it out.
The Creation
Genesis 1:1-5 KJV Jubilee African American In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.
And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
The Word Made Flesh
John 1:1-5 KJV Jubilee African American In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Genesis 1:1-5 (January 1) TLB The Book 1 Year When God began creating the heavens and the earth,
the earth was a shapeless, chaotic mass, with the Spirit of God brooding over the dark vapors.
Then God said, "Let there be light." And light appeared.
And God was pleased with it, and divided the light from the darkness.
He called the light "daytime," and the darkness "nighttime." Together they formed the first day.
John 1:1-5 (April 30) TLB The Book 1 Year Before anything else existed, there was Christ, with God.
He has always been alive and is himself God.
He created everything there is--nothing exists that he didn't make.
Eternal life is in him, and this life gives light to all mankind.
His life is the light that shines through the darkness--and the darkness can never extinguish it.
