Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
Yesterday was a wonderful and beautiful day. A fantastic and glorious day, with near perfect temperatures. We went to see the littles and deliver their daddy some tools. I was blessed with an entertaining conversation with our daughter. Then on the way home, I heard my radio commercial played on the radio. Television was enlightening and sleep was solid. Today I am refreshed to a well-rested body and energizing cup of coffee. I choose to focus on a story I heard in service yesterday.
A missionary couple went to Russia to preach the gospel of the Good News. As I understand it, it was before Vladimir Putin had become leader. They were at an orphanage in the month of December and read to the children the Christmas story. At the end they handed out art materials and instruction for the kids to build their own manger. With each kid finishing, they asked that the teachers check their work. One by one they saw the children’s hearts. They came upon one boy who had two babes in the manger instead of just one. When asked why, the boy recited the story perfectly, until he got to the end where Jesus was born…then he adlibbed. The boy stated that he was there when Jesus was born but had no gifts to bring. This upset him and he asked Jesus if it were all right if he could just keep him warm. That the best gift the little boy could give was himself.
In this Christmas season, commercialism has taken over in grand form. Many will create debt to make sure that they can give the best gift. That is not the reason for the season … to see how much you can spend. Instead how about giving the best gift you can in being available, serve at a homeless shelter, cook a special meal, or … keep someone warm by being there.
With this story in mind, … What is my best gift that I can give the Father? What is yours?
Be blessed today my friends.
*** Jesus replied, “ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” – Matthew 22:37-40
