Rethink Christianity
Behavior is important.
Behavior brought the fall into disobedience, subsequent judgment, and procreation in sin. (Ps 51:5)
God made a way of salvation because of behavior.
On account of behavior, God spared not the angels, nor His own Son the Lord Jesus Christ. He is no respecter of persons and shows no partiality. (Ac 10:34, Ro 2:11)
Logically, the simplest understanding is man’s behavior needs to change in the light of Jesus Christ. As he was never created to incline toward improper behavior, that is what God addressed when finishing the work of salvation upon the cross.
Anyone coming to God must also understand that He is Holy and hates iniquity (sin). When we know who God is and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ who is also holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens (He 7:26), then and only then will man see himself within the light of proper context.
Man must see himself and God so separate, so different, so incompatible, and so diametrically opposite from God as to realize that the only hope he has of escaping His wrath is conforming his behavior to that of Jesus Christ who is our example to follow.
Jesus authored salvation through a new testament written in His blood which required His death else the testament isn’t in effect. To create a blood covenant, a man had to shed His blood upon the cross and die. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin and this is God’s requirement.
In exchange for our repentance, faith to believe in the only way of salvation by grace through faith, we have redemption but this at the cost of ourselves; denying ourselves, taking up the cross (our daily life and burdens), and following after Him.
As man’s behavior is the cause, man’s behavior will also save him through the only way, truth, and life Jesus Christ. This translates into man having to change behaviors and produce fruit meet for repentance.
Consider what Jesus has already said:
John 3
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Consider what John Baptist already said.
30 He (Jesus) must increase, but I must decrease.
31 He that cometh from above (Jesus) is above all: he that is of the earth (man) is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
We, as man, must consider ourselves nothing at all like God. God condescends from on high us ward in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ who is a man as we are yet holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens. He, as our example, taught us the kingdom of heaven and made clear our behavior is unacceptable and inappropriate.
If we can’t understand this, then we will never grasp that man wasn’t created for sinful behaviors but in the image of God behaving as God.
