Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
Yesterday was a beautifully blessed day. The weather was perfect. The book signing was a success. I got to see my littles and their parents. I got to listen to quite a bit of the New Testament while driving home. I heard my commercial for the book signing in its entirety on my way to the book signing. Then my evening was filled with spending time with my husband. I would call that a beautifully blessed day.
There was a touch of concerning news, for which I am going to ask for payer. My 18-year-old niece has severe Cerebral Palsy. She was admitted to the hospital early yesterday morning for extremely low body temperature. She has difficulty regulating her own. Please pray for her, her family, her doctors, nurses and all who interact with her, as they try to correct this issue from the outside.
When you look at your day, what comes to mind first? The good things? Or the bad things? Is it a matter of when they occur, that it is how you see your day? Maybe you have a great morning and early afternoon, but your evening was not so great … so is your day good or bad? Reverse that scenario, bad happened first then good … which day would you describe? Here is the hard question. Does it matter which happened first? If there was just a hint of bad, is the whole day bad regardless of the good that was there as well? I say it is a hard question, because if you are anything like me, you are now reviewing days in your head seeing how many times you had a good day but let the bad win.
All too often we allow the darker parts of our day to rule over the blessings. All too often we cannot see blessings because of the dark. All too often, we allow the enemy to win. That is how the enemy plays. Let me give you an example of how coy he is.
‘Today was a good day in town, but that jerk cut me off and almost caused me to wreck. Since that … I hope he gets to where he was going because he ruined my day.’
‘Work was easy and I was done early, but that one employee just would not shut up. I had a headache all day because of them going on and on about how messed up it is.’
‘I got to sit on my couch and watch my shows today. It was so nice, until the kids came home and started making all that noise. I just gave up.’
Do any of these sound familiar? I am guilty of all of them, at some point in my life. What if we combined them all into one day and phrased our day like this.
‘Today was such an easy day, I was able to get my work done quickly and leave early. I barely remember a conversation about the new policies, but I tuned them out. I got home in plenty of time to watch my shows before my very energetic kids came home and I got to become a kid again with them. We don’t get to do that very often. It was great. We ordered pizza because it was a fun day. On the way home, someone was in a hurry, but I was able to be safe thanks to God’s protection.’
The way we look at things makes a difference in how we feel. Jesus said that we would have trouble because he had trouble first. But that does not mean that we live in the dark. Christmas season is a fast track to the dark side because of the commercialism and (need) to be the best. Christmas season is about the blessings that God gave us in his Son. Do not fall for the trap of darkness, seek the Light in all things.
My niece, where in a hospital, is getting the best care and is getting better. Sales from yesterday, where not a sellout, were significant. The weather, where it turned dark, was beautiful in so many other ways. See the Light.
Be blessed today my friends.
***Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him. Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart! – Psalm 32:9-11
