Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
Welp, today I am a touch sore, stiff, and beaten but … I am vertical(ish), moving and breathing. Yesterday I needed to work so as to not overwhelm the new younger clerk with the requirements and issues of a Sunday package run. The original plan was that she would work with someone a couple of Sundays to learn and see, but then we did not have package runs on Sundays all month…until yesterday. So, to ensure a smooth transition of events, I worked. After we got the carriers out the door, we started cleaning. When I kicked her out at 11, I finished the workroom floor. Then my mail packages came, 6 pallets, and I worked those. So needless to say, I worked for my money yesterday….haha. And today I am paying for it. But, as I said, I am still moving so I am blessed.
When I got home, my littles were here. They liven up the place just being here. The energy that they produce is breath taking. I did have to decline on a ball fight, however. I am not sure that I would have been able to make it upstairs to play…maybe tonight. Haha.
Today I anticipate a fairly busy day. Both with the carriers having to do two runs … one of packages first thing this morning and then packages and mail as their normal run. I anticipate frustrated customers and last-minute revenue influx with paying the higher rate to still try to get their packages to their loved ones. I anticipate a great opportunity to spread the Love of Christ in this now commercial season.
Over the years, businesses have found a way to take the joy out of the greatest season of the year. Christmas. So much to the effect that I have seen Christmas items placed on shelves as early as October. Trying to get the early buck on the holiday. Then there are the commercials advertising the BEST gift ever. Let’s not forget the family competition to be the person talked about all year because you had the best gift ever (either giving or receiving). Now the flip side of that, not being the person of the year in your family who did not meet the unwritten standard.
The enemy has truly sunk his teeth into this holiday. Its origin was to be a sight of a blessing, but it has been transformed into the biggest sporting event (in my opinion) ever. Beating the Indy 500, the Super Bowl, the World Series, the Stanley Cup, PGA whatever, etc. Being the top dog at Christmas is where the glory is in the gift giving. Forgetting about the One Gift that changed the world.
This year I encourage you to take a step back and remember the true reason for this holiday. The true reason we celebrate. Share His love with everyone…especially the difficult ones. Put the competition to bed and just enjoy the love of others. You will be amazed at how much easier it is to not lose your peace when you do this.
Be blessed today my friends.
***Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.” – Luke 2:28-32
