They began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him.
— Luke 2:44-45

Thought Of The Day...
One of the first stories about Jesus takes place when he and Joseph and Mary are visiting Jerusalem with some other families for the Feast of Passover. Mary and Joseph must have been frantic when they realized Jesus was missing. At first it is easy to think that your child is with other friends in the crowd, but then you realize you don’t hear his laughter or see him anywhere near. The search began in earnest, and they had to travel back to Jerusalem to find him.
When they found Jesus in the temple, he was perfectly fine. In fact, he was astonishing people with his questions and answers. And he was a little surprised that his parents were so upset. Having had the experience many years ago of losing our daughter for a 15 to 20 minutes in a department store helps me understand the feelings of Mary and Joseph. So, of course, when they realized Jesus wasn’t there, they went searching for him.
That reminds me of something I read in one of my ministrial books I had to study: “Find where God is at work, and join him.”
I wonder if we get so busy doing life that we sometimes stop experiencing God’s presence and his interruptions. Perhaps as we come to the end of 2024 it is a good time to search out where Jesus is and to join him in conversation and in the important work he is doing. Where do you see Jesus at work?

Prayer...
Heavenly Father, As we approach the end of another year, we thank you for all the blessings and challenges that have come our way. We thank you for your constant presence in our lives, guiding and protecting us every step of the way.

As we prepare to enter a new year, we ask for your grace to find you and walk the journey of life together with you. Help us to listen to your voice and follow your guidance. May your wisdom and love be our compass as we navigate the unknowns of the future.

We ask for strength to leave behind the negative thoughts and problems of the past year and to enter the new year with a heart full of hope and faith. May your light shine upon us, dispelling all darkness and fear.

Thank you, Jesus, for being the rock on which we stand. We pray that your love and grace will continue to guide us in the days to come. Help us to trust in your perfect plan for our lives.

We lift up this new year to you, asking for your blessings and protection. May we always seek your will and trust in your faithfulness. In Jesus precious name, we pray.
Amen.
