“You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.” 2 Timothy 2:1-4

If you are a follower of Jesus, I want to urge you today to trust in God alone. Do not put your hope in any political person or any political party. Your focus and your trust must be in God and God alone. Scripture describes this when it says, “No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.”

Your commanding officer is the Lord Himself. As followers of Christ, we are not called to simply buy into some political platform. Those platforms and politicians change their values with the wind. One administration describes where they stand morally, only to do a flip-flop in the middle of their term.

Because of this, our hope and trust need to be in God alone, and not in man. Political leaders will fail us. Policies will shift. But the grace that is in Christ Jesus remains constant, giving us strength to endure and fulfill the mission He has entrusted to us.

Today, let your trust rest in the unchanging God who holds all things in His hands.
