*WHY WE FAST (PART 1)* .

Matthew 6:16 (KJV)..... *Moreover WHEN YE FAST, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.*

Why do we fast as Christians? We fast as believers of Christ because it is one of the pillars of our belief in Christ. From our theme scripture, you will see that our Lord Jesus, when teaching his disciples about the subject of fasting, did not use the word “IF” but the word “WHEN,” meaning that it is not optional but compulsory for all of us.

Don’t be carried away by the gospel that men preach today that makes fasting seem irrelevant and unnecessary; this so-called gospel is not from God. Fasting is so important and good. It demonstrates your faith in the God you believe in.

The duration is not what I am talking about, but the participation in the act. If you don’t believe in fasting, then it means you do not believe in the whole counsel of God because fasting and prayers are among the counsels of God.

So, we fast because we are believers, and it is not a means of punishment from God.

Prayer:
I thank you heavenly father for your word. I thank you for your instructions and your admonitions are life to me and my house. I am a believer and I yield to all the tenets of my belief. Amen.
