How Long, O Lord?

How loud can you shout? As of this writing, Jill Drake from the United Kingdom holds the world record for the loudest scream, reaching 129 decibels, louder than a chainsaw or even a crowd at a sporting event. But decibels do not determine if our cries reach the throne room of heaven.

The symbolism of blood crying out from those on Earth who have died for the Word of God was described as “a loud voice” that God heard. The question, “How long?” is not new in Scripture. The book of Daniel asks, “How long will the vision be, concerning the daily sacrifices and the transgression of desolation, the giving of both the sanctuary and the host to be trampled underfoot?” (8:13). The question is an inquiry about the beginning of judgment.

The fifth seal describes the period of church history from the Reformation until around 1844, a time when persecution of God’s people increased as long-hidden Bible truth was brought to light. The blood of martyrs cried out to know when God will “judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth.” The greatest and longest prophecy in the Bible tells us when this judgment began, a period at the end of the fifth seal.

Daniel records, “For two thousand three hundred days; then the sanctuary shall be cleansed” (Daniel 8:14). This prophetic period stretched from 457 BC to AD 1844, at which time it was declared that “the hour of His judgment has come” (Revelation 14:7). This message, called the third angel’s message, is given with a “loud voice.”

God is already setting things right with the injustices committed against His people who have given their lives for the faith. In 1844, God began the judgment, answering the cries of martyrs who died as witnesses. Their cries prepared the way for the message of Christ’s return and proclamation of the gospel into all the world.

Will you now also lift up your voice, not to break a world record, but to let the world know that God will not tolerate sin forever? A day of reckoning is coming!

Heavenly Father, cruelties still happen around the world against Your people. Come quickly and end all injustices.
