Amazing Facts

January 3rd

A White Robe of Victory.

How would you feel if you were cheated out of receiving a deserved Olympic gold medal? Because of a growing problem with doping, the International Olympic Committee established the Olympic Medal Reallocation Principles and, with state-of-the-art technology, are testing athletes’ stored samples going back to Beijing 2008. They’ve caught many cheaters and, as of this writing, 28 athletes have received medals they deserve.

When the symbolic souls of martyrs, in the opening of the fifth seal, cry out for justice, John sees that these unjustly murdered saints receive “a white robe.” Though we know that those who die in Christ must “rest a little while longer” in their graves, they—and all who come behind them—are assured that God is vindicating them by His own righteous acts.

A white robe, representing the righteousness of Christ, was not an everyday attire. The Greek word for robe in the text is stolē and refers to a long robe that is worn as a mark of distinction. As when a gold medal is rightfully placed around the neck of a victorious winner, heaven acknowledges these martyrs who suffered deaths not as failures—but as conquerors.

God’s plan to destroy sin forever has taken our planet on a long journey to allow the universe to observe Satan’s true colors. What appears to be an apparent win for the devil in Eden will be overturned. The martyrdom of Christ affirmed the devil’s doom. The “little while longer” that we must wait is quickly coming to an end.

Though you may not suffer martyrdom at the hands of cruel men, you must lay down your life each day if you would be a follower of Jesus. Paul explains, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20). Will you be part of the “great multitude which no one could number … standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes”? (Revelation 7:9).

Dear Jesus, I long to receive Your robe of righteousness. Forgive me of all my sins. Cleanse me from all iniquity. May I remember that faith leads to victory over the world.

KEY BIBLE TEXTS
And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. Revelation 6:11
