Fallen men reject the Bible; they reject the Word of God. O they might speak respectfully of it in certain nostalgic terms, but they won’t accept it as the guide for their lives because it hinders them, it cramps their style, it cuts them off from the things they want in life.
And what we’re talking about is God’s Kingdom, His truth, and His value system. That’s what men reject! They don’t necessarily reject religion. Cain didn’t reject religion, he brought to God his good works. The people in the Wilderness didn’t reject religion when they worshipped the Golden Calf, saying to Aaron, “Make us gods, which shall go before us.” The men in Israel (except the seven thousand) didn’t reject the sensual religion of Jezebel; they loved it. And so it goes.
