Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
One of my devotions yesterday spoke of relationships. In their discussion of good ones to bad ones, the question arose about our investment in said relationships. At first, I placed the dynamic to my family and close friends. However, I realized that ‘relationships’ are not those two categories. Relationships can also mean those you pass in the grocery store, a co-worker, someone you met for the first time, a person at church, or someone you passed while on your walk in the park.
Relationship is defined as this (according to google): the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected.
Note that ‘people’ is listed last. Also note that this is the first definition listed, so the definition is broader. The second definition zeroed in on blood and marriage.
Relationships are all around us. Relationships thrive one way or another depending solely on one the investment or lack there of given by all parties. If one is not vested, then the relationship will not bloom.
In my thoughts as I devoured this devotion, my attention turned from my family relationships to my student and/or co-worker investments. With everything running through my brain I confess that my investment has not been what it should be. I have kind of reverted back to the throw them in the deep end and making them swim concept. After hearing His words, I realize that I am wrong. It is my responsibility to ensure that they have the education and training that they need to succeed.
Last night I watched a show where a training evaluator came in and began teaching the teachers. She ruffled a few feathers, but her underlying desire was the best for everyone. As I watched the script unfold, I realized that I fell into those categories with my young clerks. An area that I hope to change for the better.
But a second part of this post is this, all that is spoken above can be turned around into our relationship with God. What is our investment in growing closer to Him? He is putting in a minimum of a hundred percent, what are we putting in? Another lesson I learned yesterday. I found it humorous that not only my devotion, but my scripture reading, my prayer time, and my television show all had pretty much the same message … relationship investment. Do you think that just maybe, this is important to Him?
Today my focus is on how to better serve the relationships that He has afforded to me. Where will your focus be?
Be blessed today my friends.
