Amazing Facts

January 7th

The Sign of the End.

Today’s verse reminds us that we are living in the time of the sixth seal. These events, when “the powers of the heavens will be shaken” (Matthew 24:29), are yet to occur. In Revelation 16, the apostle John was given a vision of seven last plagues that are to come just before the coming of the Son of Man. The seventh plague corresponds to this part of the sixth seal: “Every island fled away, and the mountains were not found” (Revelation 16:20).

Also, God’s voice will be heard from heaven, declaring, “It is done!” (v. 17). The judgment of our world will be completed; every person’s case will have been decided. Then the sky will be “rolled up” like a scroll, just as the books have been closed to await each verdict (20:12).

Isaiah similarly prophesied, “All the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll; all their host shall fall down as the leaf falls from the vine, and as fruit falling from a fig tree” (Isaiah 34:4).

The intensity of this day is a strong call to be ready. Peter wrote: “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up” (2 Peter 3:10). The utter destruction should move us to be among the redeemed.

Christ also foretold: “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors!” (Matthew 24:32, 33).

What is near? Christ’s return! Over and over, Christ is telling us that His coming is sure and that now is the time to make a choice for or against Him. When it comes time for the earth to be shaken in this manner, will you be ready?

Lord God, let me not take your faithful warnings carelessly or apathetically, but may I diligently choose You each day.
