Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
For most of my life, I have just been me. Not really trying to impress anyone, just did my own thing. Nothing really bothered me, with a few exceptions. I disappointed my grandma when I was 9 because I forgot about a dinner that she wanted me to attend with her. She said it was okay, but I felt so bad. To this day that does bother me. When my childhood best friend decided she did not want to be my friend anymore because others said I wasn’t cool enough. (we have reconciled since then) Later in life when I went my ten-year school reunion (have not been to another one) when I was accused of being bi-sexual because I came to the reunion with a husband and the way I dressed in school everyone thought I was gay. I have always been the odd duck as it were. I have been pretty good about it … I don’t sit in my room and cry, as a matter of fact it takes quite a bit to get me there. Throughout my life I have been pretty much a slob. I like my hair unkempt and ball cap. I like blue jeans/sweats and t-shirts. My house is nowhere close to white glove clean, and I do not want it to be. My car turns into a rolling trash can more times than I can count.
Now through all of that, it may sound like I am not a good person, or clean person, or a friendly person, or whatever. It may sound like I do not like who I am. It may come across in a totally negative context. But here is the truth. The truth about me. All that is stated above is true. Every bit of it. That is who I am. I am perfect just as I am. In that I accept me for who I am. I look at myself in the mirror and I know who God made me to be. I look in the mirror and I can tell myself that I love me for who I am.
There have been times in my life that I tried different things. I tried to keep a white glove house…didn’t last long. I tried to do make up … didn’t last long. I tried to keep a tidy car … didn’t last long. These are all outward issues. I focus on the inward issues. I focus on being honest. I focus on being true. I focus on showing love. I focus on kindness. I focus on supporting the lowly. I focus on showing God’s grace. I focus on forgiveness. I focus on God.
Believe me when I tell you that I am not perfect in that I do everything right every day. Oh boy, I fail at that repeatedly. However, when I look at myself in the mirror, I can honestly say that I did the best that I could that day and if I failed in an area, I know that I need forgiveness.
The world says that I am FAT, UGLY, ARROGANT, EGOTISTICAL, and the list goes on. The world is not completely wrong… I am quite large. To someone I may be ugly. I definitely am arrogant and egotistical … that is part of my charm. But you know what else, I am a child of God who loves unconditionally. I am a Grammy and Oma whose grandchildren love her unconditionally and do not see beauty as a physical trait but one of peace. I do not care what the world thinks of me. I care only what my Father in heaven thinks of me. He loves me. And he loves you too. Do not let the world tell you otherwise.
Be blessed today my friends.
***Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit which is of great worth in God’s sight. – 1 Peter 3:4
