Isaiah 53:1-5 Comparing Scripture The Way, Simplified KJV, NIV Storyline
Isaiah 53:1-5 The Way BUT, OH, HOW few believe it! Who will listen? To whom will God reveal his saving power?
In God's eyes he was like a tender green shoot, sprouting from a root in dry and sterile ground. But in our eyes there was no attractiveness at all, nothing to make us want him.
We despised him and rejected him--a man of sorrows, acquainted with bitterest grief. We turned out back on him and looked the other way when he went by. He was despised and we didn't care.
Yet it was our grief he bore, our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, for his own sins!
But he was wounded and bruised for our sins. He was chastised that we might have peace, he was lashed--and we were healed!
The Vicarious Sacrifice of Christ
Isaiah 53:1-5 Simplified KJV Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground. He has no form or splendor, and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him. He was despised, and we did not esteem Him
Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, yet we considered Him struck, wounded by God and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was on Him, and with His lashes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:1-5 NIV Storyline Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
