What happens when our heart gets squeezed? When life gets hard, when we are stressed, or when the pressure builds, whatever is in our hearts will come out. Have you noticed some seem so nice until things do not go their way or they are placed under pressure, and then a whole different person emerges?

The Bible deals with this in Luke 6:45 which says “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”. It is easy to put up a façade when things are going okay, but when we are blindsided the real us will tend to come out. We can tell where we are with the Lord by what comes out of our mouths. Do we tend to be more negative lately, critical, argumentative, saying hurtful or inappropriate things? Are we surprised by what comes out of your mouth when we are angry or frustrated? Let’s ask the Lord to cleanse our hearts and help us to speak only that which builds up, encourages, and brings God glory. How we speak is not a speech issue, it is a heart issue.

Ps. 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

James 3:9-10 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
