Proverbs 2 (my notes are after the asterisks*) 1/2
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you,
**this is an acceptance first prior to the locking away in one’s heart of the commands
2
turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding,
**Turning our ear to wisdom is saying that we are not God and we are in need of His Sovereign wisdom. We no longer depend on human frailty but only depend on Him who is wisdom and truth and Lord. We then apply or ready our heart to understanding. This means we ready our hearts for the application of that wisdom that we have received. It no longer stays up here(head) but has now saturated down here(heart) and has now worked its way into our hands and feet.
3
and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding,
4
and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,
**we are calling out for insight. Insight of what? EVERYTHING. We cry out and plead with God for understanding which is applied insight(the use of it in our world, be it relationships, friendships, the lost, the body of Christ, any and everything. We are to look and search(meaning a hunger and a desire for it) as if it is expensive gold and silver or a hidden treasure filled to the vats
5
then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
**when we do the above, THEN we will understand the fear(reverent not scared) of the Lord. This is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge
6
For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
**The Lord freely gives wisdom, knowledge and help with application. He longs to help. Longs to lead. Longs to be there for you.
7
He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8
for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.
**the Lord is there for those who follow Him. We have victory in Him. We must not worry for the Lord is with us and for us
9
Then you will understand what is right and just and fair--every good path.
**Key Word THEN —-> choose to Follow Jesus and then we will begin to understand every good path for our lives
10
For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
**He will place wisdom into our hearts and the knowledge we will receive will be like the sweetness of a honeycomb. It will be pleasantries for our very soul. We will feel freedom. We will feel less burden. We will feel strengthened. We will feel hope. We will know which decisions to make. We will have the strength to make the difficult ones
11
Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.
12
Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse,
**Wisdom saves from the wicked people around us. Whose words are not of God but of this world. Whose words will not lead us on the path of life but of death and despair
