Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
This morning is a difficult morning. This morning some very dear friends of mine are in mourning. This morning a little boy woke up on his birthday knowing that his mommy was killed the night before. This morning a pregnant sister must monitor her stress levels so as to not do harm to her unborn child, yet grieve for the loss of her sister, and attempt to support her parents and nephew. Today many people are in stand-by mode ready to jump at the ready to do whatever physical that they can do, for today is a difficult day.
When you live in a small community, a true small community, you become a family. Your neighbor needs a waterline repaired; you are there. Your neighbor needs a cup of sugar, you are there. Your neighbor needs a jump, you are there. In a true small community, we all are affected by tragedy.
Last night a young lady was late for work. In her haste to try and not be too late, she hit some ice and slid her vehicle onto the highway where she was met by a semi. She died immediately.
Her family is a part of the same small community that I live in. Just a couple of weeks ago, we had her parents over for dinner … and her little boy.
In wondering what to post today, God laid it on my heart to talk about family, community, and the benefits thereof. He was adamant about it and wanted me to use the above scenario to show it.
Tragedy is just a breath away at any given moment in time. We as believers are a small community with expanded boundaries. Meaning that no matter where you go, you will find this particular community everywhere. We are the ones standing at the ready to do whatever we can do to hold you up, support you, or just let you cry on our shoulders. Living within a small community or belonging to one that has no boundaries, the knowledge that there is heartfelt love at our fingertips, helps when we have difficult days such as these.
When you find yourself in a predicament where you are in a difficult place, reach out and ask for help. Even if it is just a hug. When you find yourself on the sidelines waiting to be put in the game, know that in tragedies, sometimes all that is required in the beginning at least, is a hug. Avail yourself for random bursts of emotion and tears and ensure that you have a dry shirt nearby.
Today is a difficult day, but … in a small community … it can be just a little bit more survivable because the support of friends and loved ones bearing the heart of Christ … we are here.
Please pray for this family who needs our support more than ever. I know the ache of losing a child, too soon in my eyes. This family really needs this small community that knows no bounds.
Be blessed today my friends.
***He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. – 1 Thessalonians 5:10-11
