A criminal here on earth commits a crime worthy of death. So, they are caught, sent to court and are charged guilty. Now they are locked in prison on death row. While waiting for the electric chair they become law abiding citizens while in prison. Will their obedience, their works, save them? No, no matter how much they obey the law they remain guilty. No matter their works they remain on death row. What will save them then? Perhaps a pardon from the King? So the King pardons them and sets the free. See, forgiveness is a gift that cannot be earned. Works do not earn pardons. No matter the amount of laws they now obey they cannot earn a pardon due to their past transgressions. So, we are saved by grace, through faith, which is dead without works. However, scripture also says we are justified by not only faith but also works. How can works justify? Well, if you receive a pardon and continue breaking the same laws that put you on death row then it could be as if you never received a pardon. Your simply placed back in prison. A slave to sin and death. I'm not saying anyone can be sinless but I'm also not saying they can't be. I don't know. What I do know is some are greater than others and wilful sin is forbidden. This is my understanding but I could be wrong. Just know a pardon cannot be earned and ones righteousness by faith cannot come from obeying the law..
