Monday I had a tooth pulled. Years ago that tooth had a root canal done and a crown placed on it. The tooth split for some reason recently and an infection had formed causing a lot of pain. While I was doing my best to keep my mouth open for what seemed like an eternity, the dentist was busy moving a tool around. When he finished he showed me an x-ray of the tooth and told me it had come out in pieces and he had a tough time getting that last little piece out. I was glad he was thorough because I would have had issues in the future if he hadn't.
Sometimes we are tempted to do things halfway while serving the Lord. It may be a ministry we are involved with, reading the Bible or praying, or even just being faithful to the Lord during the day. We get distracted, in a hurry, or impatient so we may not give our best. There is a Scripture that addresses this in Colossians 3:23-24 where it says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ”. When I remember all that the Lord has done for me, I certainly need to give Him my best. If I don’t it will usually cause me problems in the future because the old devil will take advantage of any kink in my armor caused by neglect.
2 Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
