Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
When did the church begin to truly fail?
What an opening question don’t ya think? Mind you, I am not talking about how the church failed before Jesus. I am talking about ‘how did we get to this place we are in now’? How did we become so cavalier about sin?
Now I only have 55 years to draw on; the first of which was not a fond one of the church as when I was taken as a child, I was snubbed and looked down upon. I know now that particular action was not that of the ‘church,’ but it was in that the education was designed that way. I was poor; therefore I was less. Those with more boldly displayed their superiority. Arrogance has always been around, so that is just something you, if you were like me less than financially picturesque, decided to flip on those who were and have a wonderful life with less.
Was it the ‘sleeper’ generation? The generation that would rather not stir the pot and just like bygones be bygones. Was it the boomer generation and their demands for respect and rule abiding? Thus causing generation x to rebel against everything. Was it the millennials who did not like what their parents were, so they became the 90’s hippies? That leads us to the two newest generations who believe that everything is permissible and there are no rules to get into heaven.
I would love to know where the catalyst is for our failure, but the truth is we failed because we have free will. Sometimes when we knew we should speak up, we didn’t. Sometimes when we knew it was wrong, we did it anyway. We allowed ourselves to dance along the edge of the world and call it progress. Now we have brick/mortar churches filled to capacity with lost souls who think that they are heaven bound. They have all the good extras, and they talk nicely to each other inside, but they no more exit those doors, and their true self comes out. They never did surrender.
I am not dooms-dayer, however, I can see the signs. Will the end come in my lifetime? Don’t know. However, what I do know is that I do not want the Father to look at me and tell me that I was lukewarm and spew me from his Kingdom. So, how do we fix what we have allowed?
Speaking for myself, I have started taking a deeper look at myself. How am I living my life? Am I presenting myself as a Loving sacrifice? Am I compassionate to needs of others? Do I give out of my abundance or out of my poverty? What kind of speech am displaying? Is my language foul … would I say that if I were standing in front of my pastor? What is my prayer life like? On this one, I can attest that my prayer life has massively improved. I feel so much better after a solid prayer before bed and in the morning.
What is your worship life like? Do you only worship Him in church, or do you sing his praises all day every day?
The way we change or at least improve the now version of salvation is to show the Truth. Regardless of how we got here, we are here and now we must do our best to fix it. We fix it by first fixing ourselves. If we are not living in accordance with His book, then how can we expect others to? If we are cursing like it is biblically okay, then why would anyone want to change? (fyi…this is a hard one for me). We are the bible that everyone sees. We are the new age disciples. We are His voice. We are His children whom he has directed to go out and convert the lost to the salvation of His Light. We cannot do that if we first are not willing to sacrifice ourselves.
The enemy has made a pure and logical display of everything is okay. That there are multiple doors that lead to eternity with Christ. That only ‘bad’ people go to hell. The enemy has played on our desires to be free from rule, and we have allowed it by staying silent and not wanting to start a fuss. You can defend the Gospel without starting a riot, speak softly and carry a big stick … the Word of God.
I realize that this is a bit of a rambling, but if you zero in on the deeper message, Unconditional Love while speaking the Truth boldly, is the only way to turn this generation around.
Be blessed today my friends.
*** Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20
