Amazing Facts

January 28th

Our Dwelling Place.

It is because of this reason—because these people have had their sins cleansed by Christ’s blood—that they are able to be “before the throne of God.” It is because of what Christ has done for them that they are now able to “serve Him.”

Do not mistake what this means. This is not servitude as to an earthly king; this is not enslavement or belittlement. This is the deepest privilege known to mankind, that he might serve the One who set him free (John 8:31, 32). After all, “do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” (Romans 6:16).

Thus, what God foreshadowed in the earthly sanctuary of the Israelites will finally come to pass in the reality of God’s heavenly temple: “I will dwell among the children of Israel and will be their God” (Exodus 29:45). In the Most Holy Place, covered by a cloud of incense to save His people from death (Leviticus 16:13), God came to man: “There I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the Testimony” (Exodus 25:22).

One day, at Christ’s coming, symbols will become reality. No longer will a cloud shield God from the sight of man, but we will see Him face to face (2 Corinthians 3:18), for Christ will have done away with the “iniquities [which] have separated [us] from [our] God” (Isaiah 59:2). “Day and night,” forever, will we be in the presence of Him whom we love most—God and humanity eternally together.

What wondrous love is this that the King of kings, the Lord of lords, God Almighty desires to be with His creation, the human race; the infinite Creator, the majestic Ruler who commands the entire universe, claims victory by having a personal, intimate relationship with His people.

King of kings, I long to serve You in Your heavenly sanctuary, where You will be our God and we will be Your people.
