Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
Today I actually got up before the sun. Now before we all get too excited about this, it is 7 am…the sun is not due for another hour. But hey…I am still up before the sun. haha. An added bonus is that I did not sleep 10 hours like I have been. That was really beginning to hurt my body. I was so stiff trying to roll out of bed.
Yesterday was a chore, errand, and mom appointment day. That means that I had to find someone to come keep my husband from overdoing. He actually found two of his friends and he had a good day out in the shop watching them work on cars. It was good for him to get out of the house.
One of the chores that I had to complete yesterday was cleaning my Keurig. I did not realize how long it had been but as I began the cycles, it became abundantly clear. Let’s just say it is a good thing I ate dirt from my mud pies as a child and washed it down with garden hose water with a degree of eating army food in the field.
When I emptied the water reservoir, I noticed that mold had begun to grow on the bottom of the tank. Nice bright green mold. I spent the next ten minutes or so shaking my head as I tried to power wash the growth out with hot water and my sink sprayer. Afterwards, I ran a couple of cleaning pods through and then I added the cleaning solution to the tank. This time I actually followed all the instructions and let it sit for thirty minute before completing the rinse cycles.
My Keurig had started acting up. Like the sensor was not reading properly for dispensing the coffee to the mug size I requested. It was either far less or overflowing more. That is what made me actually decide to clean it. To try and fix the sensor. I was afraid that it was completely dying, and I was going to have to actually buy another one. I am not interested in that option just yet. When I found the mold in the tank, I was caught off guard. The tank has been emptied many times and refilled many times, how did I miss this bright green blob?
Sitting here this morning, drinking my very clean and fresh coffee, my adventure with the Keurig came to mind and the story of the Pharisees upset that the disciples did not ceremonial clean before eating. Jesus’ response was pretty simple, why are you so worried about the outside when the inside filthy.
The inside of my Keurig was increasingly filthy and all I seemed to care about, slightly, was the outside to make sure no dirt/dust got in my coffee. But the inside was growing fungi that would/could cause health issues.
We can take a shower every day. We can wash our hands throughout the day. We can make sure that our hair is clean and kempt. We can make sure that our clothing is tidy and neat. But if what we keep in our hearts is filth…none of that matters.
The church is not brick and mortar buildings. The church is the followers of Jesus. If the church is full of bitterness, distrust, even hatred … how can you expect any non-believer to want to visit His house?
We, the church, must clean our insides first. Confess to Him our misgivings and struggles. Pray for His forgiveness. Seek His face in all circumstances. And when we see or feel the mold starting to grow, repent. The way that we keep the mold from returning is to be cleansed by reading His Word. If we are in the Word daily, then there is no foundation for the mold to begin.
Join me in His Word as we clean our insides with his beauty and Love. Fill your heart with His message and be refreshed…from the inside out.
Be blessed today my friends.
***Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are filled with greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside will also be clean.—Matthew 23:25-26
