Den of Thieves

And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. ~ Matthew 21:12-13

but ye have made it a den of thieves. These words of Christ highlight the issues mentioned in Jeremiah 7:11 and relate them to the current situation. The priests and temple officials were involved in dishonest trade, greed, and exploitation. They treated the temple like a hideout for thieves, using it for their own gain. In doing so, they stole from both God and people.

and the temple was a sanctuary to them: They hid behind a facade of religion and devotion while taking advantage of widows, stealing from people, and engaging in greed and excess.

Beware of some of today's modern so-called churches!
