In Acts chapter 15 Paul and Barnabas disagreed about the use of John Mark on a mission trip. As a matter of fact, the Word tells us they disagreed so sharply they separated ways and headed off in two different directions, and yet both were used greatly by the Lord. I am not going to say one was right and one was wrong. They simply had two different personalities and had different expectations when it came to Mark.
Sometimes we as brothers and sisters in the Lord may disagree on methodology, preferences, and minutia, but as long as we have a personal relationship with Jesus, and believe the fundamental truths of God’s Word and his mission to reach the lost we are still a team. Let’s look for common ground, love one another, focus on what God’s Word says, and win the lost while there is still time. We may even head in two different directions, but the lost need saving in both directions. Whether we prefer vanilla or chocolate, Roll Tide or War Eagle, contemporary or traditional, we are still a part of the family of God. Never allow a personal preference keep you from God’s best or from encouraging one another in the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage and comfort one another and build up one another, just as you are doing.
1 Peter 3:8 Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.
1 Corinthians 1:10 I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.
