Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
One of my favorite devotional books is Sparkling Gems by Rick Renner. He tells a story and connects a verse…but his story always starts with a verse where my stories I have to find the verse most of the time. Another extremely profound difference is in his story he takes key words of the verse, finds their Greek (sometimes Hebrew) counterpart and gives true definition to what the words mean and how they are used in the Greek language. The context and understanding that this brings changes the game. It assists in building our defenses against the enemy. I highly recommend his two Gem books.
This is necessary if we are going maintain our peace and joy throughout difficult times. We must fortify our armor with truth. If we only go on ‘what we hear’ and ‘interpret’ ourselves, we are sure to be led astray. We are faulty and inherently covered in worldly ideas. Quick side note: Did you know that those trained to detect counterfeit bills never touch a counterfeit bill? They do not. They only study the real deal. Hours on hours on hours of study of each characteristic of the real deal. That way when they fake stuff touches their hands and sight, they know without fail that it is not real. This is how we must be in God’s word.
In the Feb 28 Sparkling Gem (book 1), Rick titles his devotion “Your Redemption Is a Done Deal”. In this story he tells of a goat that was stolen, bound and tossed away in a ditch. When the owner was notified that his goat had been found dead, he rushed to the scene. When he got there he realized that the goat was very much alive, but because it was still bound, it would not move. The owner cut the ties and smacked the goat. It did not move. He pulled the legs apart and stood the goat up and smacked it a few more times … it was only then that the goat realized that he was not a captive anymore.
We are much like that bound goat when we mess up. The enemy uses our missteps and plays them out in the world’s view of scripture to convince us that we have messed up our salvation. That there is no way that God would ever take us back. Even if the sin in the world’s eyes was a small one (office talk), the enemy in our quiet time tells us what a horrible person we are and that God despises us. The worst part about it…we fall for his lies. We are no different than that goat with ties cut off. WE agree with the enemy because we know what we did was wrong. If you enhance the sin to taking someone’s life (in any form) … in the world’s eyes we are evil. Therefore deserve hell. But … I want you to remember one person … Saul of Tarsus. What did he do for a living? What was going to do on the road to Damascus? Exactly, he was murdering Christians because of their faith.
We need to be so engulfed in the Word, that when then enemy spews his lies, we can bat them away … as many times as necessary. We need to be so knowledgeable and willing to challenge his lies that even if it ‘feels’ right on what he is saying, we have the courage to go to Him and his Word and seek the truth to shore up what our spirit is already telling us.
When I am approached with “Well the bible says ….” And I am 99 percent sure that it was either taken out of context or it does read that way at all, my reply is “hmm, that is interesting” unless I am given the counterpart answer right then or I am guided to engage in their lack of knowledge. Sometimes we just need to listen(ish) and not engage. Proverbs talks about fools answering fools. But as long as I know in my heart that I have followed God’s rules and guidelines, my armor is secure.
We are all broken clay pots. That is alright. We were all captive to the sins of lives, but that is no more. Once you give your life to Christ…genuinely give your life to Christ … you are a captive no more. He cut the ties of sin and saved us from ourselves. Are you going to mess up? Yep…I do every day. HOWEVER, that mess up does not retie my limbs to sin…I need only to confess, repent, and ask for forgiveness. If we are to forgive our brother 7 times 77 … how many times do you think the Father will forgive us?
Do not fall the enemy’s lies and tricks. Start today in binding yourself with the Word of God. His truth. That way, when the enemy comes at you or for you, you will see without a doubt the tricks and the lies and know that he is counterfeit.
Be blessed today my friends.
