Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.

In true procrastination and ADDOST form, bible study is tonight and I will be cramming for the meeting at lunch. Several times through the week I have thought about it and then subsequently forgot about it. This is one of those areas that I need to desperately improve on. My prayer life has gone from (eh) to (eh okay) to sometimes (okay). I am definitely a work in progress.

Yesterday’s message was very good. We are studying Colossians. Yesterday we started chapter 3. Incredibly insightful and for me; another colored rainbow picture of what He sees as my next struggle to change. Though we all know that I am mess … haha … that is not today’s topic … specifically. A key point that I took away from the message is this:

*** Why is our covenant with our spouses so different than our marriage with Christ?***

When I got married … it was for better or for worse. For richer or poorer. In sickness and in health. My husband and I have had our fair share of worse and poorer and currently in the sickness phase. We have had plenty of the brighter side as well. In no instance have I considered cheating on him. At no time have I considered leaving him.

Using marriage as the metaphor, I married Jesus when I was sixteen. Many people questioned the marriage, but I stood firm. Then over the course of the years, I cheated on Him over and over again making worldly priorities more important than Him. I even left Him a couple of times. I have blamed Him for all the wrongs and turned my back on Him. Yet … He never once considered leaving me.

I have been married to Jesus for 39 years. I have been married to my husband 33 years. In many ways, my earthly husband has been blessed with my commitment more than my Heavenly husband. Not that I do not love my husband. I do. My vow to him was ‘til death do us part’. Wouldn’t you think that my brain and heart would put at least as much effort into my heavenly marriage since it is not til death, but eternity?

When my pastor used this example or posed this question pitting our earthly marriage commitment to our heavenly marriage commitment … my heart was pierced.

Today I pray that you will evaluate your commitment to Him and set your sights on things above … we were made new when we were buried with Him. I know that I can do better. He is not going to leave us. But should we not at least try to do the same for Him?

Be blessed today my friends.

***Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. – Colossians 3:16
