What is grace?
If you ask our world today that question, you’ll come up with many wide-ranging (and wrong!) answers—perhaps that grace is about greater consciousness, greater unity, the inner oneness that we have with each other.
Many Christians are even confused about what grace really is! Because grace and mercy are often found together in the same passage in Scripture, we can think that they are synonyms—two different words for the same thing. But that’s not true either.
So, what is grace?
Personally, I’ve found that the lyrics of “Amazing Grace” contain the most profound outline of God’s grace you will find outside the Bible itself. It puts to music what the world really needs to rediscover—the incredible truth behind the love of God.
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
Through many dangers, toils, and snares
We have already come
'Twas grace that brought us safe thus far
And grace will lead us home
When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun
