10 KEYS TO UNLOCKING THE MYSTERY OF DEATH:
1. The dust of the ground the breath of life = a living soul (Genesis 2:7).
2. When a person dies, the dust returns to the earth, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7).
3. The word spirit in Ecclesiastes 12:7 is translated from Hebrew word ruwach literally meaning breath. You can see the parallel in Job 27:3: “All the while my breath is is me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils.”
4. Jesus described death as an unconscious state. When the disciples thought Lazarus was just sleeping, “Jesus said unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead” (John 11:11-14).
5. The dead have no more knowledge, rewards or memory. They cannot love, hate, be envious, or take in anything here on earth (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6).
6. Because all of humanity have sinned, all of humanity are subject to death (Romans 5:12).
7. Jesus Christ brings life and immortality through the gospel (2 Timothy 1:10) for only Jesus Christ has immortality to give (1 Timothy 6:15, 16).
8. David did not go to heaven, but “is both dead and buried” (Acts 2:29, 34).
9. “The dead praise not the LORD” (Psalm 115:17). People would certainly be praising the Lord were they in heaven.
10. The dead wait for their respective resurrection, “some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt” (Daniel 12:2). See also Revelation 20:6; Revelation 21:8; John 5:28, 29.
