Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
How well do you pivot?
Pivot is a multi-useful term. One definition (according to Google) is:
1. the central point, pin, or shaft on which a mechanism turns or oscillates.
A second definition (according to Google) is:
2. to turn on as if on a pivot
In my job, if one route does not have enough work for a full eight hours, they ‘pivot’ to another route to help out and make their eight hours. In basketball, a pivot is frequently done at the net to get their shot off. In the military, while doing Drill and Ceremonies (marching drills), in order to turn as a unit, we must all pivot on the balls of our feet at the same time.
Those of you who know me, are now asking yourself (ok?) and (where is she going? I think I know…but…) Right?!
When we all decided to walk with Christ, we had a vision of what it would be like. Some thought our troubles would go away. Some thought it was just a title. Some threw themselves into this blessing full on and others didn’t. My own walk was quite quiet in the beginning. It was not until I was in my thirties that I did anything with my salvation. (I found him at 16) Some would say that I wasn’t really saved in the beginning because I did not do anything. That is their opinion.
Through my walk, I cannot count how many times I had to pivot. When you walk into a situation or find yourself in a situation that started innocent enough, however, you begin discerning quickly that you placed there for a purpose. Perhaps you are in the grocery line, waiting to pay for your items when someone in front of you needs help paying for theirs. Maybe you are on a walk, on your favorite trail and you notice someone new, however they look ‘off’…you greet them for no other reason than to be kind … you might have just saved their life. The downtrodden person on the corner with a sign for help, all the townspeople talk poorly of them, but you are compelled to give them what is in your wallet. It isn’t much … but it means the world to them. You make plans for the weekend; you are excited, and someone asks you to help them.
Some pivots are easy. Some are not. How well do you pivot? How easy it for you to change the direction of your heart to show the Love of Christ?
On a personal note, some pivots come as gentle and graceful as breathing. However, I have found myself having to take deep breaths and stepping out in obedience to some of the pivots I have been asked to make. Then, when it involves another, ensuring that my ‘obedience’ is not shown on my face.
Jesus said that he has suffered, therefore we will suffer. Jesus said that his yoke is light. Jesus said to go out and make disciples.
Some pivots come naturally. Some are instant. Some are faint. The point is, as His chosen children and disciples of modern times, we are often called to pivot. Over time, I have found that pivoting is getting easier. Afterwards, I am just as rewarded as the person or situation I was called to interact with.
Most do not believe that I used to be extremely shy or inward protected. Now, I am hugging random people at random times of the day (with their permission of course). Now I am starting silly conversations in the STEM toy isle about how it’s not fair kids today have all these cool things. Maybe I will buy them for me and go sit in my fort. Those I engage with there often want to come over and play. Haha.
Pivoting can be scary. The enemy will do all he can to keep us from pivoting when called. But pivoting can be so refreshing to the soul. How well do you pivot?
Be blessed today my friends.
***He also gave him a copy of the text of the edict for their annihilation, which had been published in Susa, to show Esther and explain it to her, and he told him to urge to go to the king’s presence to beg for mercy an plead with him for her people. –Esther 4:8
