Isaiah 53:5 says, "But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed."

The cross. I've seen it as tattoos. I've seen it on bumper stickers and tee shirts. I see it as jewelry. But I believe that most people who wear a cross in one way or another don't truly know what it means. In Jesus' day, it was a symbol of shame, punishment and humiliation. It would be the same today as someone having a tattoo or tee shirt with an electric chair on it, only a hundred times worse.

This verse paints a vivid picture of Jesus’ suffering on our behalf. He bore the punishment we deserved, bridging the gap between us and God. His piercing, crushing, and wounds were not just physical—they represented the weight of all sin across humanity. Yet through His pain, we find peace. Through His wounds, we find healing—not only for our sins but for the brokenness in our lives.

The cross of Jesus Christ is not something to be taken lightly. If you wear a cross, you should do it with respect and love. Because He took the punishment that you deserve out of love. God placed His only son on that cross to pay for your sins. There is no greater symbol of love than the cross, and there is no greater love than the love God has for you.

Let’s also ask ourselves: Are we living in gratitude for the peace He has purchased for us? How can we share the hope and healing He offers with others?

Have a great day, and as always, let others see Jesus in you!
