CLOSE TO GOD
Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
ISAIAH 6:5
At times, you will grow closer to God—ridding your heart of idols, renewing your commitment to Him, and shedding all that encumbers your relationship with Him. Then suddenly, out of seemingly nowhere, you will be absolutely convicted of your sinfulness to the point of utter brokenness.
It will be surprising because you’ll feel further from God even though you’ve been more dedicated to Him. But take today’s verse as encouragement. It was when Isaiah got close to the Lord that he truly understood his sinfulness. He was not being rejected by God. On the contrary, the Lord was readying Isaiah to draw even nearer!
The same is true for you. The closer you get to God, the more aware of your sins you’ll be so He can free you from them. The discomfort is not forever and afterward “produces a repentance without regret” (2 Corinthians 7:10) that will lead you to a deeper and more fulfilling experience of His love and all Jesus has provided for you in salvation.
Jesus, this pain as I draw near You is difficult, but I trust You to set me free and draw me even closer. Amen.
My hope is in Jesus because His presence is my eternal joy.
