Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
I woke up this morning to an almost dead phone. I did plug it in last night, and it did bling like it does when it is charging, so I did not pay it any mind. This morning it was sitting at 23 percent. I think it might be time to replace the cord…what do you think?
Curious thing, if you think about that scenario above, it represents us. Pause for a minute and think, yourself, if you can see the similarities. Once you see it, you cannot unsee it. I promise.
In life, we all get caught up in routine. Sometimes the routine is good, sometimes not so good, but we all have them. It makes life easier to not forget things if we do them at the same time, the same way. However, routines become dogma, and we miss things that are key. Such as a dying charging cord.
When this happens in our walk, we go about our daily business the same way each day and set a schedule, in a sense … get up – pray. Breakfast – bible study. Errands – praise with the radio. Work – be a good steward. Go home – be a Proverbs woman or disciple man. (very generic I realize, stick with me) Sounds perfect almost, doesn’t it? Let’s say this is you. When you stick to this schedule, to the letter, are you more focused on keeping the schedule or are you more focused on putting Jesus first.
I know from my own experience, listening to the radio praise and worship music goes in waves. One day I am dancing in my car giving glory to God and his wonderfulness, then one day I am not even hearing the words, it is just noise to keep my mind entertained as think about all the tasks and failures of the day. Once I oversleep, bible study happens whenever I find five or ten minutes … maybe. And even if I keep the same morning routine, am I truly absorbing the Word? By day’s end, am I at 100 percent charged with God’s presence, or am I only at 23 percent because I thought I was plugged in to a good charging cord.
Even the best routines need revamped from time to time. I go through periods of radio every morning, to devotions every morning on my way to work. Sometimes I like to find a podcast. When I find myself drifting away from the lesson, consistently, whether in the praising of God in my music or words spoken to me to hear, I realize that I need a new charging cord. Sometimes that cord is simply a phone call to a friend when I drive to work, sometimes it is mere silence to allow the noise in my head to fly out of my ears. My point is, do not set yourself in such a routine that the dogma of that routine takes over the lessons and opportunities that are before you. Don’t miss out a blessing because you have to keep a schedule.
Be blessed today my friends.
***May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. – Psalm 141:2
