Everyone Will See It.
On July 12, 1962, the way the world saw things changed forever. On that day, the first television satellite broadcast transmission—between the United States and France—took place. According to Space.com, viewers saw many iconic images, such as the American flag, the Eiffel Tower, and the Statue of Liberty.
During the French Revolution, the world didn’t have satellites, but news of France’s bloody infamy stretched to different “peoples, tribes, tongues, and nations.” Just as the ashes of the two witnesses and the slain bodies of their carriers littered the streets, the truth of France’s shameful rebellion was exposed for all to witness—and to heed a dire lesson. As the Scriptures predicted, other countries did “not allow their dead bodies to be put into graves.” No, the rest of the world did not lock up the Bible, nor put it away, nor bury it to be forgotten in some dark crypt. They committed no such grave mistake. In fact, at the beginning of the next century, in direct response to the terrors of atheism, such a resurgence of the Bible occurred, the era culminated in the Second Great Awakening.
Today’s verse also tells us that France’s war against the Bible lasted “three-and-a-half” years—remember, this is prophetic time (Numbers 14:34; Ezekiel 4:6). One commentator noted that, right on time, the reign of atheism in France stretched from November 10, 1793, when a decree was issued abolishing religion, to June 17, 1797, when the government reversed course.
France and the United States have an interesting history—and not only in the first transoceanic satellite broadcast. There were not one but two revolutions in the late eighteenth century. Scholars say that it was the American Revolution that influenced the French with such achievements as throwing off the monarchy, the separation of church and state, and the Enlightenment. France even drew up its own version of the Declaration of Independence. Yet history speaks of their vastly different outcomes, and it all comes down to one crucial, undeniable difference—God. While the Americans feared God, the French rejected Him.
Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us the “news” in advance through these prophecies. Keep our hearts pure and ready to see the signs of the times!
For Further Study: Psalm 79:2, 3; Ecclesiastes 6:3; Jeremiah 7:33
