Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
As I sit at my desk, I can hear the robin’s raising cane over something. If I were to guess, they are giving mother menopause a piece of their mind.
I thought once about following my sister’s lead and going back to school. Though her desire was to gain a new profession in the medical world. My desire was something different. I thought about seeking a degree in Theology. When I mentioned to a couple of people about this thought, they were like, ‘what are you going to do with it.’ Honestly, getting the degree had nothing to do with fostering a new career path, it was simply a desire to learn. Which, in one sense, is odd for me to think about considering my school days were just fruitful enough to get my diploma. Haha.
I am certain that sitting in a classroom would most likely be a better fit for me to learn, because of traditional aspect and the way my brain works. However, it is not really an option for me, and I can always find an excuse to skip class. Again, it is how my brain works. I have considered on-line classes multiple times, however, again, my brain goes into overdrive about logistics of learning and actually studying. Perhaps one day, I will take that mighty step of education, but it does not seem in the cards right now.
Why do I bring this up?
How many times have you thought about doing something that could challenge you, raise your skill level, or just entertain you? How many of those times have you found a ‘reason’ not to?
The concept of change, of any kind, really rocks our world. Even when we are the ones instigating it. Then you add the idea of, as in the case of furthering one’s education, the time concept. Thanks to technology, we want everything now. We tend to shy away from any project that cannot be completed in a short time. It takes true discipline to maintain a course of any long-term project. I can tell you that I could never be a construction site manager, which has to work block by block on a sky rise. I would want to snap my fingers and make it happen today. But in the same way of one block at a time on the build of a sky rise, is the same in any endeavor we do for God.
When we get these notions for projects, education, self-improvement, we need to remember that it is done one block at a time. We will not have a degree in 1 week because we signed the paper to go back to school. I believe that I will probably be that 89-year-old woman who graduates with a bunch of young people just because I could. No reason to do it other than curiosity on my part.
The idea of doing something new is exciting and invigorating, with a side order of scary and intimidating. Don’t forget the drink of anxiety. But…nothing is impossible if you place Jesus first in the concept of expanding your horizons. Do not let fear or tedious ideas stop you from taking even that first step to the new trail. Do not let the enemy tell you that you are too old, too young, too tall, too short, too thin, too fat, too whatever…that is him knowing that you were meant to do wonderful and powerful things for the Kingdom. So he will sew seeds of doubt to try and keep you from your destiny. He prays, in a sense, that his seeds will take root over God’s call. As Smokey the Bear said, “Only We Can Prevent Forest Fires.” How do we prevent the enemy…we seek God and pray. We listen for and to the Father’s voice and we follow the Shepherd.
Take a few minutes and go to the Father in prayer and ask him for guidance in the area that has you stumbling around. Listen closely for the whispers and He will answer you.
Be blessed today my friends.
***Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his, we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. – Psalm 100:2
