Merciful Warnings.
We have studied how God’s two witnesses, the Old and New Testaments of Scripture, were brutally attacked, crushed, and repressed during the Dark Ages and in France during the Age of Reason. Atheism was elevated, and those who owned Bibles were persecuted. This horrific time was foretold in prophecy, affirming the validity of Scripture and the attention God is giving to this battle between truth and error.
Now we come to another turning point in Revelation, the transition from the sixth trumpet to the seventh, the last and final time of judgment in favor of God’s people and against all wickedness. “The second woe,” that is, the sixth trumpet, has been depicted. The verse tells us that “the third woe,” that is, the seventh trumpet, will come fast upon its heels. We are assured that heaven’s plans to eradicate evil and carry out justice will prevail. And since we know the woe of the French Revolution is now history, what does this tell us about the time in which we are living?
We are currently living during the time of this seventh trumpet. The resurrection of God’s Word advanced Bible truth around the world and prepared the way for this seventh trumpet blast, a warning intended to awaken minds and hearts to make the ultimate decision in favor of God and His free gift of salvation prior to the coming of our Savior.
While trumpet blasts of judgment and sobering woes are being announced in this section of Revelation, it’s possible to misinterpret them. God is not determined to destroy as many people as possible. Rather, these warnings demonstrate His mercy, giving people a chance to repent and receive eternal life. They show that the Lord is both fair and full of grace. God’s righteousness may sound like a mere theological concept, but it’s simply that what God does is right, just, pure, and perfect.
The seventh trumpet will soon cease to blow. You have a choice to plug your ears or listen to messages that will prepare you for the final events. “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve” (Joshua 24:15).
O Righteous God, I choose to serve You. I bow my heart before Your holy throne in heaven and admit my sinfulness. I receive Jesus as my perfect Substitute and Redeemer.
