Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.

Did you know that a blue whale can fart a bubble large enough to encase a horse? It must be true; I saw it on Facebook.

For those of you who have been with me for a while know that where the opening statements are an extremely far reach from what “should” be an intro; you are not shocked … because it is me. However, I now have your attention, because you cannot leave until you find out what that has to do with our walk with Christ. And for those who have been here for a while, I apologize for causing your morning beverage to spew out of your mouth or huge laugh to wake some little one up.

Sales pitch.

That is the reason for the opening statement. A sales pitch is the introduction you get when someone is trying to get you to purchase something OR go where they are going.

“Hey, I need to go pick up a few items over here, would you like to go with me so we can have some alone time?”

“Yes sir, this is pre-owned, and it does have over 100K miles, but let me tell you about this car. It was owned by one person. They did their maintenance upkeep regularly. The tires still have an insurmountable amount of tread. …”

You get the point right?

Do you remember this sales pitch: “Did God really say that you would die? You won’t you know. You will have all the knowledge just like God. Don’t you want to be like Him?”

That last one was a doozy, wasn’t it? The enemy knows how to twist the truth so that it sounds like it’s 100 percent accurate and we should follow his lead.

What the first sales pitch did not tell you was that I was going to a place where it was not safe and you really were not comfortable going. The alone time meant that I was grooming you for an ugly event.

The second sales pitch did not tell you that the rust under the car had eaten through the frame and it was in an accident not so long ago and that rusted frame is bent.

How does any of this pertain to the fart bubble of a blue whale? It doesn’t. Except that you are now drawn in to see what I was going to talk about. How anyone knows the exact dimensions of a fart bubble are beyond me, but it is on Facebook therefore it must be true right?

The Word tells us that we need to test the spirits. 1 John tells us that by knowing the scriptures, we can weigh our knowledge against that which is false. 1 Thessalonians tells us to examine each situation for the Truth. When you are presented with a seemingly logical sales pitch, press it against the Word of God and see if stands against the Truth. If does…great. If there is even the slightest question…I would challenge that it is not Truth, but a sales pitch twisted to sound good.

I encourage you to dive into the Word. Take the Gospel Challenge and read the gospels as many times as you can by the July 4th. Get all the perspectives of His walk on earth. Embed them deeply in your mind and heart. Then, set another challenge for yourself, maybe the epistles as many times as you can by Thanksgiving. … Just a thought. The more we are in the Word, the less of a foothold that we give the enemy.

Be blessed today my friends.

*** Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. – Acts 17:11
