Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
Many times when I am talking about Jesus or Christianity, I am asked Why?
Why do I believe in what I cannot see?
Why would you follow someone who lets all these bad things happen?
Why would you want added rules to follow?
Why would you want to be with all those ‘snooty’ people?
Why?
There have been other inquiries as such, but those are the ones that come to mind this morning. This morning I am going to focus on the las one. Snooty people.
Since the beginning of time, those who believe have had the challenge of ‘balancing’ their lives. Stick with me here. We must balance our attitude. We must balance our actions. We must balance our finances. We must balance life.
The enemy had developed such a shroud for the world to see us. He has created this world that says to follow Jesus is nothing more than to follow a bunch of rules and display yourself in a pompous and rude manner because you are now better than everyone else and that you are proud to be better than them. Unfortunately, that has been the case far too many times, when an unbeliever meets a believer. But here is my question, are they truly a ‘believer’ if they are acting in such a manner? Because Jesus really only gave us two rules to follow…
**Love your neighbor as yourself and Love the Lord God above all else. **
So if we are truly followers, how is love snooty or pompous?
I bring this up today because, when I approached my father-in-law the other day about Jesus, and he blew up…the next time I saw him, he brought it up and told me that they seemed snooty. That comment has laid in my mind since then.
Being a Christian has nothing to do with being snooty, but … I believe that those who display that way … were snooty already and now they want to be part of the cool kid’s club … Christianity.
Let me ask you this…when you overhear someone’s witness, how do you react…inside? Nine times out of ten, my heart jumps for joy and I begin praying a solid seed is planted.
(quick side note: my mind is running in 500 different directions with this post. Please excuse the long pause here.)
That tenth time is usually me trying to figure out if I am to be a part of the witness because I hear what the unbeliever hears … and it is not love. I am not saying the believer wrong in what they are saying, however, the reception end is very not believing and the words they are hearing are not in a tone of love.
I realize that I am a little bit all over the place this morning, I do apologize. My simpler note is this…if our actions and our words in front of and towards a nonbeliever, do not measure up to what we are saying when we are witnessing… we might as well be talking to a tree. You cannot tell someone to have faith if you do not. You cannot tell someone to forgive if you cannot. You cannot tell someone to be nice if you cannot. OUR actions speak so much louder than our words. Let’s stop being ‘snooty’ and start being loving.
Be blessed today my friends.
***If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. – 1 Corinthians 13:1
