Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.

Can you hear that? Right outside my window at 5:30 in the morning, the birds are singing their wake-up song. Spring is here. Yesterday’s weather was quite beautiful. I was blessed with spending the first half of my shift on the road going to my tiny towns and then my lunch. It was wonderful.

So. I have question. Curious in nature really. Have you ever noticed that we have become a society of ‘we can’t be bored’?

We stand in line, and we have our music on in our ears, or we are fixated on whatever is happening on social media or we are playing a game on our phone. When we are at work, we ‘multi-task.’ Up to a bazillion projects going on all at the same time…instead of one at a time. I know that when I clean house it will take me a month of Sundays because I get sidetracked putting stuff away in another room. We have become a society of busybodies, but do we ever really accomplish anything in its entirety?

Mind you there are sometimes that doing more than one thing makes sense, if you put laundry in the machine, you are not going to sit there and watch the machine make noise. Or if you put dishes in the dishwasher … same dynamic. And on those rare occasions that we can focus…and do only one task at a time, we feel like we are not doing enough.

We make fun of the generation today being glued to games or phones but are we not just as guilty by doing a bazillion things at once so that we are not bored. It is no wonder that we are always tired. WE never rest.

The enemy has twisted success into something that dictates that we MUST be able to do all things at once and do them correctly while keeping up with all the social events around the globe and let’s not forget … look I forgot what I was going to write.

Friends. I encourage you to take time EACH day for boredom. Take time each day to stare at a wall for no reason, sit in the beautiful spring weather, look into the abyss of thoughts you have not had time to think about. Start with 5 minutes. As time goes on, try for 10. The point is that we are so hyper engaged in being busy…we forget to rest. When we do not rest, our bodies wear out and our mind starts to shut down in protection mode.

If God needed a day of rest…what makes us think that we don’t?

Be blessed today my friends.

***This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’—Jeremiah 6:16

Note: In this verse…God is calling us to a resting place and we are refusing…find rest my friends.
