Saved and Sure
SCRIPTURE READING: Hebrews 9:23–28
KEY VERSE: Hebrews 9:28
Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
Believers who look to obedience or disobedience to secure salvation will rise and fall like the ocean tides. Only when our gaze is fixed on the cross can our doubts and fears dissipate. At the cross Christ died for all of our sins—past, present, and future. As surely as yesterday, tomorrow is covered by the blood of Christ. Christ’s sacrifice is all-sufficient:
Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him. (Heb. 9:26–28 NASB)
At the cross we were justified by God. That means God credited us with right standing before Him, absolving us of all guilt and enabling us to fellowship with Him.
Once we receive Christ by faith, all of the merit of the Cross is enforced by God on our behalf. Nothing we do or do not do can ever bring us under condemnation again. We are saved and sure.
Dear heavenly Father, I fix my gaze upon the cross. I rejoice that yesterday, today, and tomorrow are covered. Thank You that I am saved and sure.
