Good evening to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.

A second night of thoughts. It came to me on my way home from a day of doctor appointments.

As I was driving along listening to whatever it was … the thought of the pond at our fairgrounds came to mind. Subsequently, I passed another one on the road. Something that all ponds have in common is that the water is still. Whether it is filled from above or from beneath, the surface water is calm.

Another thought that came to mind is fishing in the pond at the fairgrounds. To be honest, I am not sure what kind of fish, if any, are in that pond, but as a kid, going to the fairgrounds to fish was a treat.

Full transparency…I do not recall ever catching a fish there. Come to think of it, I am not sure that I have ever caught a fish anytime that I have gone fishing. I mean, I can bait a hook and cast just fine, but apparently the fish just never liked my line.

But while I was driving, these images were pushed to the forefront of my mind. I believe that they were metaphorically implying the patience we must endure while fishing and that rippling the water is not going to make the fish come any faster.

So, to put this in our walk perspective, when we are casting out line to an unbeliever or a believer who is struggling, we must remain as calm and still at the pond water. And…though we know how to bait our hook and cast our line…we may not be the one who catches the fish. It may be meant that different bait is required…but we got the fish interested.

I think many times we fall for the enemy’s scheme of “they ain’t listening and you are just wasting your time…leave them alone and find someone who wants to listen”. This idea is exactly what he wants for us, and he will press hard for us to give up the reigns. However, you know you are making a difference if that naughty little voice is like a fly buzzing your head. The enemy is afraid that we are making headway, and he is about to lose another soul to the Kingdom.

It is easy to fall for that concept of thinking. When you plant, water, cultivate and you don’t get to see the fruits. On a human plane, it frustrating, but…just as we may not see the fruits or the big catch from where we are currently…there is bountiful harvest in our path…we just have not been blessed with it yet.

So, like all good fishermen and gardeners, we must remain still and do what we know to do. If the catch is to be ours, then God will make it ours. If the catch is to be someone else’s, rejoice in their blessing.

Take time to reconfirm your commitment to serving Him who saved us. Plant those seeds. Bait those hooks. Cultivate and cast away. Build the Kingdom, one pond and one garden at a time.

Be blessed tonight my friends.

***For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. –2 Peter 1:5-7
