Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.

Yesterday was physical therapy day for me, then eyes for my mom. Just a two-a-day doctor day. I was first out of the gate. I have had to reschedule this two times already. Knowing that this was primarily an evaluation appointment, I was not sure what all it entailed, but I dressed in sweats and slip-on shoes. Since I have been dealing with this foot pain for a longer while than I should have been, (mostly because I am stubborn and don’t like going to the doctor-to be fair) dealing with this for going on two years, my brain said wear shoes that don’t hurt as badly. I should have worn my work shoes because the therapist thought my slip-ons were my only shoes.

The therapist asked me to walk down the floor to a cone and then turn around and come back. Within just three steps or so, I could hear him gasp. My back was to him, but he was fairly vocal with his gasp and comment, “that explains why you have plantar fasciitis.’ He even took a video of me walking so that he could show me how I walk from a different perspective. Turns out that I walk correctly with my right foot, but my left one (the one that hurts) I walk on the outer edge. Because I walk on the outer edge, that is why my ankle and lower leg are affected.

He gave me some simple exercises and told me to stay off my feet as much as I can. He understands my job requirements, but I need to find a way to take some of the pressure off my foot. Fun fact, I have already made some accommodations at work to help when my foot is really bothering me. The unfortunate part is that I have been dealing with this for so long, it takes a lot for me to sit down.

Not sure what I was going to write about this morning, I followed my morning routine to get coffee and such. While walking through the house, I noticed how I was walking…on the side of my foot. This is a concept that I have to physically think about and take notice of so that I can correct it. That is when He placed this thought in my mind…When you are walking with me, are you walking sturdy on both feet or are you walking strong with one foot and skirting around with the other?

It did take me a little bit this morning for that to comprehend what He was talking about. So, to direct my thoughts onto my walk, I believe that He is saying...in your prayer and reading time, are you truly devoting your heart and mind to these two areas or are you doing just enough to get from point A to point B? Sadly, I am the latter.

My prayer life has improved with my good night and good morning prayers; however, I am even skirting in some of those. His subsequent message to me this morning was this. ‘Be honest, are you walking like this on purpose to avoid the pain?’ Honestly, yes. Yes, physically I have altered my gate to avoid as much pain as I can in my foot…and yes, spiritually because He is showing me sites in my life that “I” do not want to see. Areas that He wants cleaned up.

I thought I was doing good by doing the audio devotions and listening to the bible every now and then. He has made it clear that my excuse about reading is an excuse. Listening is good, but your (me) mind wanders more than when you are physically reading. Furthermore, if you are going to listen, at least have the bible near you so that you can follow along. By activating your ears and engaging your eyes, you (me) have taken steps to overcome your ADDOST.

My friends, it is natural to alter the way we do things when we have an injury. Life still happens and chores still need done. Our responsibilities do not go away when we get hurt. However, the manner in which we alter can have a huge impact on areas that are not injured and cause them to become so. Such as the instance in how I walk now. And since I have been changing a little bit at a time over time, it has become a part of how I walk. I don’t even notice what I am doing. The same goes for our walk with Jesus.

Life gets busy and we spend a lot of time in the car, so ‘listening’ becomes an option, however, while we are listening … we are driving so we are not really listening. While we are listening, a point is made and we see this person or that person and fixate on how much they need this message. So we are not listening.

Just as I need to retrain myself on how to walk properly in the physical, I also need to train my brain to slow down and focus on the words of the Word, so that I can learn how to properly apply them.

Since my post for the evening of May 4, I have a feeling that He has more lessons in plain sight for me in the near future.

Be blessed today my friends.
