So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.
— Acts 12:5
Thought Of The Day...
When faced with a challenge, I naturally shift into problem-solving mode, eager to find a solution and implement it.
The early days of the church were quite tumultuous, and we've been reflecting on that. Today, we see that King Herod was both ruthless and shrewd. He pressured the church, killed the apostle James, and enjoyed the popularity it brought him among those who had orchestrated Jesus' crucifixion. Subsequently, he imprisoned Peter, even going so far as to station four squads of soldiers to guard him—it's almost amusing.
Did you catch how the church reacted? Instead of organizing a strategy to free Peter, they resorted to prayer. Isn’t that wonderful? They didn’t pray with qualifiers like “just.” Instead, they passionately and earnestly sought God.
In my own difficult moments, I often try to resolve issues using my own reasoning, sidelining prayer as an afterthought. I wonder what it would be like if we developed a habit of turning to God first. It might change our perspective, helping us feel less overwhelmed and reducing the grip of anxiety and worry when we stop trying to fix everything ourselves.
Prayer...
Heavenly Father, As I come before you today, I am reminded of the faith and strength shown by Peter in Acts 12:5. Despite being imprisoned by King Herod, he did not hesitate to turn to you and boldly make his requests known.
Lord, forgive me when I falter and forget to seek you first in tough times. Help me to emulate Peter's example and trust in your power and providence. Give me the courage to come before you with unwavering faith, knowing that you hear and answer our prayers.
Guide me in turning to you as my first response in all situations, for I know that you are the source of true comfort and strength. May your Holy Spirit lead me in seeking your will and finding peace in your presence.
Thank you for your unfailing love and mercy, and for the promise that you will never leave nor forsake us. May I always remember to call upon your name, trusting in your perfect plan for my life.
In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
