Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.

Yesterday was a beautiful day to be outside. It was a bit deceiving in that it appeared to be warmer than it really was, however, it was not so cold that it took away from the gorgeousness.

It was a two-a-day doctor day yesterday. One in the morning with mom and then one in the afternoon with my husband. Both were good visits. The only item of concern is that my husband’s doctor has asked him to be on a less than 2000 mg (2g) of salt. I knew that it was low, but I did not realize that it was less than a teaspoon. Yes, less than a teaspoon.

I immediately started looking up good foods and bad foods in relation to sodium and their amounts. We have altered the beverages we drink to account for zero sugar/carbs, however, Propel has 250mg per bottle. (We drink like 3-5 a day.) Tea has 5mg. Coffee has 5mg. Shoot, I looked up eggs, large eggs have 62-70 mg.

For funsies, I looked up his medicine. Sodium is a preservative…so how much of it is used in his medicine. He takes 5 of one medicine which has 23mg of sodium. That is 100 plus just to start things off with. He has another one that he takes 4 of, same … another 100mg right off the bat to account for in this less than 2000mg a day.

I realize that the doctor is speaking of food intake. I get that, but if we are going to count let’s count. His medicine is knocking him down by 500mg a day. Sodium is sodium.

Here at the beginning of this journey it is frustrating navigating this new road. The enemy is throwing up all these numbers and expectations that are seemingly too far out of reach. It was so much last night that I finally broke down and folded my clean laundry…it had been sitting in the baskets for several days. I plugged into to Pandora with Christian music playing in my ear and zoned out into laundry singing land. After which, I grabbed some grapes and something to drink, sat down and watched stupid tv to give my mind a giggle.

Today we truly start looking at what we are eating. Yes, I will attempt to keep my sodium low as well, to help support my husband and keep me from having to do twice the work cooking. I told him to just keep track of what he is eating and drinking today, and we will measure out how much sodium he is taking in now. (His days are pretty much the same everyday) This will give us a baseline to work off of and adjust. I told him to just be him, and we will work out the numbers together when I get home.

Fortunately, we have adjusted our intake in other ways, so I am optimistic that this is just a needed tweak that won’t be overly difficult.

I know that this is just one more aspect of life that the enemy knows that Victory is ours and he is not pleased. He also knows that we (my husband and I) are somewhat impulsive, so if he can throw enough at us, we are likely to dig our heals in and say forget it. However, apparently, he has forgotten that we are children of the Most High and though we throw our tantrums, ultimately, we follow His will. If His will is for us to tweak our food, then we will tweak our food.

My goal today is to focus on my responsibilities at work. Give 100 percent of my mind and body to work. I will go shopping on my lunch and take the food to the house if needed. Then I will focus again on my job. Once I get home, I will concentrate on other responsibilities. I think I will wait until after work to go shopping, that way I can take time and read labels. Yes. After work.

This kind of thought process will be my new norm until I find my sturdy ground of understanding. There is always going to be uneven ground in our paths, the trick is to not let it rule, scare, or frustrate you into quitting. A friend of mine recently posted that she has a laundry list of new obstacles in her health. She could be down and quit, but she is just as stubborn as I and she is going to be Victorious.

Friends, we do not stand alone in this new watered times. We stand in unity, leaning on each other for a combination of His strength and love with our physical being. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we have a bond that is like none the world understands. Moving into this uncharted water is scary, but with your prayers and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, nothing is impossible to show His Victory. Stand firm.

Be blessed today my friends.
