Prepared for the Mud

Today before I left the job site, something happened that stayed with me all day. It was pouring rain, mud everywhere, the kind that clings to your boots and weighs you down. I had to cross a creek, navigate through thick woods, and I could feel the heaviness in the air. But strangely, I wasn’t bothered. I wasn’t anxious. I wasn’t frustrated. I was at peace.

You might ask, “Jared, why weren’t you bothered? Why didn’t it get to you?Because I was prepared. I had on my work clothes. I had my boots laced up. I was dressed for the conditions. The mud didn’t frustrate me because I came ready for it. And in that quiet moment, God whispered something to my heart:
“Jared, this is exactly how it is when you walk with Me… and when you don’t.”

I paused and asked, “What do You mean, Lord?” He said, “When you go through life without Me, it’s like walking through the mud in your best clothes. Every little mess frustrates you. Every stain feels like a defeat. But when you walk with Me, when you spend time in My presence, when you clothe yourself in My Word, you’re spiritually prepared. Just like you were in your work gear today. You’re equipped to handle the mess, and the mud doesn’t define your peace.”

That hit deep.

It reminded me of what Paul wrote in Ephesians 6:11 “Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.”
When we put on Christ each morning through prayer, worship, and His Word, we’re not just surviving the day; we’re walking in peace no matter what comes. Rain or shine. Mud or chaos. Jesus said in John 16:33 “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” We aren’t promised perfect circumstances. But we are promised perfect peace when we walk prepared with Him.

So wherever you are right now, whatever “mud” you’re in, don’t run from it. Don’t fear it. Just make sure you’re dressed for it. Clothe yourself in Jesus today. Walk with Him. And the storm won’t steal your peace. God bless you.
