SERVING WITH EXCELLENCE AND INTEGRITY
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”
— Colossians 3:23 (KJV)
The Spirit of Excellence
To serve God is to serve the King of Kings. As such, He deserves nothing less than our very best. The spirit of excellence is not about perfection—it is about diligence, faithfulness, and giving our all in whatever assignment we are entrusted with. Whether you are leading worship, sweeping the floor, teaching children, or preaching the Word, it should be done with care and quality as though Jesus Himself were watching—because He is.
Daniel was preferred above all other governors in Babylon not because of favoritism, but because "an excellent spirit was in him" (Daniel 6:3). Excellence attracts favor, opens doors, and glorifies God.
The Importance of Integrity
While excellence reflects how we serve, integrity speaks to the character behind the service. It is possible to do the right thing with the wrong motive or to serve publicly but compromise privately. God is not impressed by charisma—He looks for character.
Integrity means serving honestly, avoiding shortcuts, being dependable, and doing what is right even when no one is watching. An anointed life without integrity is a disaster waiting to happen. But when a servant walks in both excellence and integrity, they become trustworthy vessels in the hands of God.
“A faithful man shall abound with blessings...”
— Proverbs 28:20a (KJV)
Serving Beyond Eye Service
Paul admonishes believers not to serve with "eye service, as menpleasers" but as sincere servants of Christ (Ephesians 6:6). Eye service is shallow—it performs only when being observed. But true Kingdom service is consistent, whether celebrated or overlooked. We must remember that our ultimate supervisor is God, and our reward comes from Him.
Becoming a Reliable Servant
In every generation, God is looking for reliable men and women—those who will not quit when unrecognized, who will remain faithful even in hidden places. Your consistency in small assignments qualifies you for greater ones.
“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things...”
— Matthew 25:21 (KJV)
