Good morning to you. Grace and peace be with you.

The other day I ran across a video of a preacher calling out the false teachers of our time. There were four that he showed as he read scripture to support his point. I have seen all four of these personalities. All four have been in the news for one reason or another. Two of them, in my opinion, have created a questionable character for themselves.

Now, I am not going to name names or give details of their teachings. That is not the purpose of this paper. Nor am I going to defend them against the preacher who is calling them out…that is not my place. However, it did get me to thinking though.

Then I got to thinking about an episode of Little House on the Prairie. Mary had gotten her teaching certificate and was asked to go teach in this back woods area. This area was ruled by superstition, innuendo, and the ‘biblical’ teachings of Miss Peal. She was a scary old woman who did not know how to read but repeated what she had been told through the times as the gospel. In one scene, Miss Peal grasped her bible so tightly, she shook. She knew she was right, and that Mary was Jezabelle. Fast forward, it was discovered that no one knew how to read, so Mary taught them all.

What do these two things have in common? Thought you would never ask.

The Pharisees and the Sadducees were all high-ranking spiritual leaders. They were taught by other spiritual leaders. Over time, opinion, instead of fact, crept into their view point. Just like anything else, the more you say something, the more like the truth it feels. Then, just like Pharaoh, they were not willing to see the Truth that was right in front of them. Add to that, if they were to admit that they were wrong, what would that do to their status? Because personal opinion had entered into the equation and bias of who the Messiah was coming to see, John and Jesus were discounted as deviant.

So, today is making you think, but better to think about this, than the nonsense the chaotic world brings. Stick with me.

The leaders of the day followed the same ideology that Miss Peal did in the that little remote area and the people followed her because they did not know any better. The religious leaders followed their teachers and formulated their own conclusions based on their egos and status in the community.

So, how does this apply to today and our walk? As with all things that we are told and encounter, we are to weigh them against the Truth … the Word of God. The four religious influencers that I spoke of in the beginning, have taught some very good lessons, they have used out of the box teaching methods, but…their character speaks volumes in a different direction. (my opinion). Each of these influencers have taught some questionable lessons which makes me turn directly to the Word for clarification. Each has made life choices, during their ministry, which makes me wonder where their heart is.

With the television and the internet, we have the Word of God at our fingertips. We also have false teachers/doctrine there as well. As you entertain these potential leaders, do not feel scared to challenge the teaching and do the research yourself. Go to the passage that they are teaching and read the chapter for context. Use what you have learned and apply it to what YOU read. Then pray that God open YOUR eyes to the Truth.

Personally, I feel bad for these influencers who have been swayed by the enemy. It is said that when you take on the role of a teacher, you are doubly accountable for your actions. If they are teaching falsely, I don’t want to be anywhere close to them when they stand for judgement. That will not be a pretty sight.

Now, there are quality teachers on the internet and television. The hold true to the doctrine and underlying true Love that is displayed in the Word. They speak the truth, not harshly, but directly. They don’t condemn; they simply lay it out so there is no misunderstanding.

It is very easy to fall into the trap of opinion of what is true, as the Pharisees and Mis Peal did, and to create your own view of the scripture as these modern-day influencers do, however, it is highly important and necessary to NOT forget that the Truth is just that … Truth. Modifying it does not make it better; it makes it a lie. Something to think about.

Be blessed today my friends.

***For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” – 1 Corinthians 1:18-19
