The Power of Not Letting Go

"Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer." - Romans 12:12

There’s something powerful about not letting go. About holding on when everything around you seems to be falling apart. About praying and refusing to give up even when the situation looks impossible.

I read a story about a young boy in Florida who was attacked by an alligator while swimming in a nearby lake. His mother heard his screams and ran to him, grabbing his arms and pulling him with everything she had. The alligator pulled in the opposite direction, refusing to let go of the boy’s legs. It was a brutal struggle. But the mother’s grip held strong, and eventually, she was able to rescue her son.

When the boy was taken to the hospital, his legs were scarred from the alligator’s teeth. But what surprised the reporter who interviewed him was the deep scratches on his arms. When the reporter asked about them, the boy smiled with pride and said, “Those scars are because my mom wouldn’t let go.”

Maybe you’re in a season where life feels like a vicious battle. You feel pulled in different directions, scarred by struggles, and tempted to give up. But the truth is, sometimes, all that matters is not letting go. It’s holding on to faith even when the pain is real. It’s praying when everything in you says to quit. It’s trusting God even when you have more scars than answers.

Just like that mother who refused to let go of her son, your persistence in faith makes a difference. The scars you carry are not signs of defeat. They’re reminders that you held on. They’re proof that when you wanted to give up, you chose to keep believing.

Right now, make the choice to not let go. Keep praying, keep trusting, and keep believing that God is still working even when it feels like everything is against you. Your persistence matters. And God is faithful.
