Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
This morning I am in a bit of a quandary of what to write about. My mind is blank. As I scroll through this platform and that, looking for a topic prospect, one thing continues to pop up in my head … multitasking.
Who invented this necessity in life? Why do we find it necessary to be excellent in this area? When did it become necessary to be able to multitask innumerable tasks to completion? Why did we decide that we needed to be busy every minute of every day with several tasks all at once?
Where multitasking can be a good thing…such as put the laundry in the washer, then put the dishes in the washer, then clean the bathroom while those two are washing…this mindset has slid its way over into our private time with God.
We listen to soft music while reading. We listen to a podcast or devotions while driving. (guilty of both) Consequently, we are aiding our mind to wander off topic (Him) as we think about all those who should be reading this, hearing this, doing this. In the midst of being a great multitasker, we have conveniently clouded and filled our minds with such nonsense importance that there is no room for just what is truly important. The message of His Love and direction.
Even right now I am thinking about if I should go grocery shopping on my lunch, come home at lunch, or both. Should I go for a walk down the trail and relax or will it be too wet? What kind of atmosphere am I going to have at work and how many fires will I feel the need to try and put out? When am I going to finish this short story that is due in 4 days? I should do that for my lunch, but what if it is a nice day, do I really want to spend it in a building writing?
This is just a fraction of the little nutty squirrel inside my head thoughts. It is one thing to try and plan, but just that little bit there, I am trying to formulate a way to do it all during my 2-hour lunch. Just think how awesome I would feel if I could accomplish that.
I believe that we need to take a step back and remember that we are not super humans and that multitasking, where necessary or okay in moderation, should not take over our lives. We need that one-on-one time with Him to set our spirit on the right track. Jenny’s track is not our problem, our track is. David’s track is not our problem, ours is. We are responsible for us. When we are in our time with Him, we need to focus on our time with Him. This is difficult. Probably one of the hardest things that He asks us to do. Be alone with Him. Completely.
However, when we are alone with Him, completely, the results of peace are far beyond what we could ever imagine and expect. Several months ago, I told you about an experience where I sat out by my she shed for over two hours on the ground, just in His presence. It was phenomenal. And for whatever silly excuse, I have not done it sense.
The enemy is very good at keeping us busy. If we are busy, then we won’t seek Him. If we don’t seek Him, we will struggle to focus. If we are struggling to focus, then he will be able to use his logic to guide us, making us think that it is from Him. It is a nasty cycle, but a true one.
Today I encourage you to find time to sit in the presence of the Prince of Peace and regain your center. The day will be far better once you do. That is my goal today as well.
Be blessed today my friends.
***Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk I the light of your presence, O Lord. – Psalm 89:15
