I will never understand a dog. Ranger threw up, and I buried it because, well, it was grossing me out watching him eat it. I just caught him digging it up again and eating it, dirt and all!
A scripture came to mind about this very thing;
You can go back and read the entire chapter, but here's a running start to the verse:
2 Peter 2:19-22
19 They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. 20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21 For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.
Have you ever known someone in church, who is more hateful and bitter today than they were a year or so ago? They have been exposed to the Truth of God's Word and His love for them, but instead of growing in that grace and knowledge, are just plain mean? It is not a sin to judge a man's character by their actions. That is wisdom! That is how we grow our circle of friends. That is how husbands and daddies protect their wife and kids. How men protect the women in their lives. Oh, and don't even think about messing with Mama Bear! She will chew you up and spit you out! It is also how the shepherd protects the flock.
Matthew 7:16
16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.
I never say, "I'm not judging or anything." because I do, we all do. Sometimes, during this process I find I am, or have been, wrong. Sometimes, if the person professes to be a Christian I go to them for understanding. I have accountability partners in my life who are brutal with me at times. That doesn't work if the person doesn't want to be held accountable, which brings into question the seriousness of their commitment to the Lord.
Which brings me to another point. An Accountability Partner is not always right. That means the approach isn't to be in the form of accusation but conversation. Both parties should know that this is "CONVERSATION for understanding" and should lead to reconciliation. Offense should never be taken when the whole matter is brought because of love one saint has for another! Someone loves us enough to step out of their comfort zone to confront an obvious sin in another's life. I've gone back many a times to thank a friend for showing me I was in err.
